The role of TRE® in Releasing Stress and Trauma
TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release Exercise) is an innovative series of exercises that safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that assists the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma calming down the nervous system. TRE®’s reflexive muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant and soothing and after doing TRE®, many people report feelings of peace and well-being.
TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release Exercise) was developed by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, (http://traumaprevention.com/about-dr-david-berceli/) while he was working in war torn countries in Africa and the Middle East. Experiencing the large-scale trauma of those communities he recognized a need for a simple, self-empowering method that could support people’s recovery from trauma. His observation and exploration led him to understand that the body has a natural shaking/vibrating response that appears to be an instinctive system for quieting down the brain and releasing muscular tension as a way of healing itself from chronic stress, tension and trauma.
He designed a series of 7 simple exercises that activate the bodies’ instinctive tremor mechanism. Once activated these neorogenic tremors are regulated according to the individual’s physical and psychological comfort. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is supported in returning to a calm state thereby supporting health, wholeness and well-being.
Dr. Berceli has taught TRE® to thousands of people across the globe over the past 20 years. TRE® books have been translated into at least 10 languages and about 60 countries are currently offering TRE® certification programs. TRE® is now successfully being used worldwide, helping people recover from chronic tension, stress and/or post trauma symptoms.
