SUMMARY:8-WEEK MBSR MORNING PROGRAMME
DESCRIPTION:The 2018 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Programmes start in February at the Integral Health Studio in Constantia\, Cape Town. \nFriday morning programme starts on: 12 October 2018 \nThis is an empowering\, participant-centred programme which offers practical skills for responding in a healthy way to the stress\, pain and illness that inevitably forms part of life. \nFounded in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center\, the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme is the most successful and well-researched stress reduction programme worldwide. The MBSR programme is specifically designed to support those new to meditation. \nThe MBSR programme offers intensive training in formal and informal mindfulness-based practices that mobilise people’s own inner resources of mind and body\, which enables them to take greater care of their personal health and wellness. \nWith mindfulness\, we become increasingly able to observe our thoughts\, emotions and sensations consciously\, rather than reacting to them unconsciously. This provides an opportunity for learning to respond to life’s challenges with kindness and compassion. \nFriday morning MBSR programme\n Facilitated by Ingrid Regenass \nDates and Time: starts on Friday\, 12 October until 30 November. \nThe first class will be 3 hours: from 8.45 am for 9 am to 12 noon.\nOn subsequent Fridays the classes are 2¾ hours: from 9.00 am for 9.15 am to 12 noon. \nFull day retreat: 17th November from 8.15 am for 8.30 am to 4.30 pm \nCost:  R4\,800.00 with R1\,500.00 (Non-refundable) deposit payable on booking. The balance of R3\,300.00 to be paid three weeks prior to the commencement of the programme. Proof of payment secures your place \nEach of the eight sessions focuses on a different theme\, with time allocated to practice\, theory\, and discussion. Home practices are included each week to support mindfulness becoming an integral part of your life. \nFee includes: Pre-programme appointment if registering.\nFee for pre-programme appointment if not registering: R 600 (45mins) \nTHE 8-WEEK MBSR PROGRAMME INCLUDES: \n\nA pre-programme interview\nEight weekly group classes of 2\,5 hours each\nA full-day retreat\nInformation on the science of stress\nTeaching of mindfulness practices for stress reduction\nGentle stretching and mindful movement\nHome practice manual including guided practices\nRefreshments\n\nEACH MBSR PROGRAMME IS LIMITED TO 10 PEOPLE – BOOKING ESSENTIAL \nIf you are interested in attending please complete this online enquiry form. \nPlease remember to state on the form which programme you are interested in\, the morning or the evening. \nOnce I receive the online application form I will contact you regarding setting up a date for the pre-programme interview. An invoice will be sent to you after the interview. \nPlease don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further information. \nIngrid: 0829250076; admin@integralhealth.co.za \nBenefits of the Programme\nAccording to the Institute for Mindfulness South Africa\, two decades of published research indicate that most people who complete the programme report: \n\nLasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms\nAn increased ability to relax\nReductions in pain levels in many cases and an enhanced ability to cope with pain\nGreater energy and enthusiasm for life\nImproved self-esteem\nAn ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.\n\nThe Facilitator\nINGRID REGENASS: \n“I am a mindfulness-based\, Integral Health coach\, in private practice in Cape Town. I have qualifications in nursing\, exercise and fitness\, clinical nutrition\, counselling\, Coaching\, TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release). I have recently completed the 2-year postgraduate certification training in Mindfulness-Based Interventions offered by the University of Stellenbosch’s medical faculty. \nI have worked in the field of health promotion and wellness for over 25 years. Over the years my work has evolved to include a variety of modalities\, which I draw from to empower people to journey towards optimal health and wholeness. \nMy mindfulness journey began in 2008 when I participated in the 8-week MBSR programme. Since then\, mindfulness has become an integral part of my life. I regularly attend silent retreats\, participate in mindfulness programmes and attend a weekly mindfulness group to support my practice and ongoing learning.” \nANN BOTHWELL PATON: \n“I have been working as a counsellor for nearly 10 years\, having trained in both London and Cape Town. I currently work at Hope House and in private practice\, although one of my roles is as a supervisor and trainer with a refugee peer counselling project\, Adonis Musati here in Wynberg. My original career also started in the NPO world\, where I worked with a literacy project\, interested on contributing to teachers’ training\, and pupils’ access to libraries in Alexandra township in Johannesburg. \nHaving focused primarily on educational issues earlier on\, my interest in psychology has seen further training (Psy Hons) and working with the Centre of Applied Jungian studies\, Lifeline (trauma)\, Hospice (bereavement\, grief and loss)\, and Willowtree\, London (child therapy). This training culminated in the postgraduate certification offered by the University of Stellenbosch’s medical faculty on Mindfulness-Based Interventions. \nWhat is Mindfulness?\nEmeritus Professor of Medicine Jon Kabat-Zinn\, the scientist\, writer and meditation teacher who pioneered bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society\, defines mindfulness as “the awareness that arises by paying attention on purpose\, in the present moment and non-judgmentally”. Through mindfulness practices (various forms of meditation) we can learn to wake up to the present moment. \nMindfulness has its origins in Buddhism in the East but today is applied in a non-religious way the world over because it has been shown to counteract stress and help people live happier\, healthier lives with reduced psychological and physical symptoms. This is borne out by current neuroscientific research – studies show that regular meditation practice can produce structural and functional changes in the brain in as little as 8 weeks.
